The Princess

Our First UBP Signature Build

The E9X M3 represents a version of BMW that we will probably never see again. A naturally aspirated V8 that revs past 8,000 rpm. Hydraulic steering. A chassis that feels mechanical and connected in a way modern cars rarely do. The S65 engine was derived from BMW’s Formula 1 era thinking, built to chase response and sound rather than torque numbers on paper. It was not designed to be efficient. It was designed to feel alive.

 

For a lot of enthusiasts, this generation is peak BMW. For me, it is not just a benchmark. It is the car I always wanted. I can appreciate newer M cars. I respect the classics. But there is not a single BMW I would replace this with. Not something modern. Not something vintage. Not even an E30 M3. This platform strikes the balance perfectly. Size, weight, sound, and feedback all working together in a way that feels complete.

 

The goal with this build was never to change what makes the car special. It was to enhance it without taking anything away.

 

The ESS G1 supercharger kit adds power in a way that complements the S65’s character rather than overpowering it. With the 94mm pulley, the car gains urgency across the rev range while still pulling cleanly to redline. It does not lose its high revving personality. It just hits harder everywhere. The exhaust combination of resonated test pipes, RKP mid pipe, and DINAN axle back keeps the tone sharp and aggressive without becoming harsh.

 

Reliability was treated as seriously as performance. BE rod bearings with ARP hardware address one of the platform’s known weak points and ensure the engine is built to handle sustained use. Supporting components like the upgraded VANOS covers and refreshed valve covers keep the details as intentional as the headline modifications.

 

On the chassis side, Öhlins Road and Track coilovers and Turner monoball control arm bushings sharpen feedback and control without compromising the balance that makes the E9X so rewarding to drive. The result is a car that feels tighter, more precise, and more confident at speed.

 

The Princess is not built to chase trends or numbers for the sake of it. It is built to preserve and elevate what many consider the last truly analog M3. This is the standard everything else is measured against.
